RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF UNIMAGINABLE CHALLENGES

I can’t thank Big Table enough for their incredible support during the flooding last January and their kindness and practical help made all the difference during such a difficult time, so I’m forever grateful for the care and generosity they showed me and so many others.

Ashley has always been someone who rises to the occasion, no matter the hardship. At the age of 7, Ashley began caring for her disabled mother. By the age of 20, after the sudden loss of her sister and brother-in-law in a tragic accident, she became the primary caregiver for her three adopted nieces and nephews, including two who are autistic. Despite the weight of these responsibilities, Ashley perseveres, juggling four jobs to provide for her family.

Recently, Ashley’s world was shaken again when severe flooding hit her home. Three feet of standing water flooded her garage, destroying everything from mattresses to treasured books. Her household, already struggling, now faced yet another challenge. But through it all, Ashley never gave up hope.

Like she had for the last 2 years, she still worked as hard as ever as a server at a local hotel. Her employer knew she needed a safety net and reached out to Big Table, an organization Ashley had seen make a difference in so many lives, to now help her in her time of need.

Thanks to Big Table, Ashley found critical relief. Flood-related expenses were covered, ensuring her home could be made safe again. She received support for food and housing stability, utility bills, and gas gift cards, helping her manage her demanding jobs and responsibilities without sinking under the weight of these additional costs.

Ashley’s story is one of resilience, love, and the power of community. Through her strength and the support of organizations like Big Table, she continues to overcome the challenges life throws her way, providing for her family and moving forward with hope.
