Nearly 26,000 people work in Accommodation and Food Services and make up the 6th largest industry in the Colorado Springs Metro area. The average cost of living for a Single Parent with One Child is $90,425 and yet the average Industry pay for a full-time employee is $28,600 (Source: MIT Wage Calculator). Caring for them strategically impacts the whole community.

Since Big Table care started in March 2023, nearly 300 care recipients (and their families) have been served hope through nearly 3,000 personal care encounters. This covered workers from 120 hotel and restaurants in the area. The best part has been watching transformational stories of hope be written for people just like Jodie.

There is so much work to do to care for our Colorado Springs industry workers.

When care feels like home

Big Table was there for us when we felt like we had nothing. Knowing someone cares enough to keep checking in has made all the difference.

Larry works hard in the kitchen at a local restaurant, cooking and prepping to provide for his wife and their three young children. After moving to Colorado Springs, a sudden rent increase left the family unhoused and unsettled in transitional housing. That’s when the Salvation Army referred them to Big Table.

Our care coordinator, Dan, quickly came alongside them. The first step was covering move-in costs for a new apartment. Then, to help make it feel like home, we helped provide new beds and critical household essentials. Those simple but meaningful touches gave the family both stability and dignity as they started fresh.

Care didn’t stop there. Dan has continued to walk with Larry and his family, offering encouragement and connections to community resources along their journey toward financial stability and lasting hope.
